Content advice, traced back to the study it came from

Every month I take one piece of content advice, find the research underneath it, and say plainly whether that research held up when other people tried to repeat it. Some of it does. The Zeigarnik effect, the finding behind cliffhanger advice, failed to replicate in a 2025 meta-analysis. You get the breakdown, the paper so you can read it yourself, and a discussion board to work out what it changes for you.

Why this exists

The point is that you can check it yourself

When a piece of advice has research behind it, that research can be found, read, and checked against whoever tried to repeat it. That's the whole method here, and every breakdown hands you the paper so you can run it yourself. I'd rather you end up able to do this without me.

🔬

One study, read properly

What it actually measured, how many people were in it, and what the numbers were. Every term explained in plain language before the technical word arrives.

🔁

Whether it replicated

A finding that survived other researchers repeating it is a different thing from one that didn't. You get told which, and where the finding stops applying.

💬

A real discussion board

Bring your content, your questions, your wins. Members and I work through it together. It feels like a class forum.

FAQ

Questions about The Lab

What arrives each month?
One piece of content advice, traced back to the study it came from. You get what the study actually measured, whether it held up when other researchers repeated it, what that changes for your content, and a link to the paper so you can read it yourself.
What does replication mean, and why does it matter here?
Replication is when other researchers run a study again to see whether the same result shows up a second time. It matters because a finding that survived being repeated is a different thing from one that didn't, and plenty of widely shared advice rests on the second kind. The Zeigarnik effect is the example I keep coming back to: it's the finding underneath cliffhanger advice, and it failed to replicate in a 2025 meta-analysis. A related effect from the same era, the tendency to resume something you started, held up fine.
Do I need a research background?
No. Every term gets explained in plain language where it appears, and the plain explanation always comes before the technical word. The paper is there so you can go deeper whenever you feel like it, at whatever pace you want.
How much does The Lab cost?
Twenty-nine dollars a month, with a founding-member rate held for early members. You can cancel anytime.
What else is included?
A discussion board where you can bring your own content, ask questions, and work through what a finding means for your situation alongside other members. Live teardowns are being added as the community grows.
